Toyota Partners With BMW On Building Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars

German automaker, BMW, has finalized talks of collaboration with U.S. automobile giant, General Motors, on hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles.

The collaboration of the two auto giants will pave the way for BMW to strengthen its partnership with Toyota. In 2011, BMW announced it was exploring a potential partnership with General Motors as part of developing next generation powertrain technologies. In an exclusive interview to Bloomberg, BMW confirmed the final talks had taken place between Toyota and BMW.

"We are still talking to General Motors, but no longer on the topic of fuel cells," said Alexander Bilgeri, BMW Spokesman.

Based on the current arrangement, BMW will share its 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesel with Toyota to fill a gaping hole in its passenger car line-up. The fleet of the line-up will take place in Europe in the initial stages.

Toyota confirms in an official announcement that it is all set to launch a hydrogen fuel cell-powered passenger car by 2015.
