The all-new advanced tracking system of Tesla might leave you thinking that it's not prone to be stolen at all. The GPS on-board the Tesla would allow for thieves to get caught despite running away with the vehicle.

A recent incident, however, has proven otherwise. Given that cars manufactured by the company are expensive, thieves have an eye on them and would do what they can to get a hold of one.

As a matter of fact, there have already been 2 cases of car theft in Germany, with both of the cars stolen Tesla models.The first incident happened on June 11th, with the other one, a Tesla Model S P90D getting stolen on August 2.

While the details as to how it actually happened remain uncertain, it's also unclear whether or not they would get the cars back from the ones who stole them. One speculation is that the accounts of the Tesla car owners were hacked, with smartphones getting used by the thieves to control the cars.

One of the original owners still has a hold of their car's keys.  The GPS system on their stolen vehicles has also been jammed, but it remains unclear as to how it was done.

There was a Model S which was stolen in Canada a year ago but was retrieved thanks to the tracking information available on the owner's account. Using a different plate, or changing up the colour of the car will not be enough to cover up the theft.

The software of your tesla unit also has to be modified. Tesla is known to effectively monitor what happens with their cars, therefore making it relatively easy to locate stolen vehicles the moment it is reconnected to the system.

While Tesla has not yet released a statement regarding the cases of theft, it's more than likely that it is doing what it could strengthen the security of its cars.
