Bid Goodbye To The 1991 Nissan Sentra, at least in Mexico, as new safety regulations become tougher and the latter failed to comply on the safety system needed. 

Normally, this would not be a huge news as cars getting recalled or stopped production is normal in the automobile world. Similar regulations had happened with Volkswagen Kombi in Brazil in 2014 and Dodge Viper in the USA last year. However, the Sentra '91 better known as Nissan Tsuru in Mexico is the country's most popular car. 

It is a major player in Latin American countries and established the flagship for a whole era as it is the most bought car from 1997 to 2012 before the Volkswagen Jetta finally beat it. Thousands of Mexicans own it and all of them cannot use their cars anymore - unless they modify its safety features - when new regulations roll out. 

Its low price and spacious interior makes it the preferred car of taxi drivers as well as middle class families. The abundance of parts on the market and uncomplicated B13 chassis also helped the sedan maintain its popularity over the years. However, the safety of the car clearly was left in the background.

According to recent studies of the Latin NCAP, the high selling compact sedan, is one of the most unsafe car model in the world and provides no protection to the occupants. 

It doesnt have Anti Brake System (ABS), dual airbags are missing and it doesnt have the needed structure capable of withstanding impacts. It is clear that while this car can pass regulations on the late 90's, after 25 years, it would be a problem not having these important safety system.

In addition to the Nissan Tsuru, other car models will have to be discontinued too since it did not comply with the new regulations.
