Mitsubishi Motors is facing a struggle with one of their car models. The Japanese car company continues to sell the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, only to get a not-so-positive responses from the reviewers.
Autoweek reported that the model only sold a very low count of 40 units. As a result, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is dubbed as the "worst selling car in America." Why and how is that so?
The car review outlet says that Mitsubishi allegedly produces the model to due to California's market-manipulating Zero-Emission Vehicle. According to the website, it is a requirement which says that "manufacturers have to sell a certain percentage of ZEVs if they want to sell other, more profitable vehicles."
But on the other hand, Autoweek stated that the Mitsubishi i-MiEV has nothing more to offer. What could be the reason why? Let us dig deeper into car's features:
1. The iMiEV has only 16 kWh of batteries, making it the lightest and cheapest electric car on the market. However, a 16 kWh feature will only bring you 62 miles away. Since that is the case, the owners should make a list of their travels in order to check if they are about to reach the limit so they can charge the batteries.
2. Additionally, Car and Driver noted that the vehicle is slow to drive with only 0 to 60 takes 13.0 seconds.
3. Recharging an empty battery takes almost a day. However, upgrading to the 240-volt "Level 2" unit that will be sold through Best Buy stores will charge the batteries for only seven hours.
4. Meanwhile, The Car Connection reported that the Mitsubishi only received only three stars for side impact safety. However, it got four stars out of five for overall safety. It gets four stars as well for frontal crash and rollover safety.
5. Even though the model is the first electric car to be available in the market, the competitors are eager to develop a more stylish and efficient electric car.
