Starz recently announced that the fourth season of its original series "Black Sails" will be the last. The 10 episodes of Season 4 of the "Treasure Island" prequel will return in 2017 with the pirates at war in West Indies.

Notably, "Black Sails" was the first original Starz series, which went beyond 3 season, reported Deadline. Additionally, the premium cable distributor also renewed its drama series "Power" for season 4 and season 5 on Tuesday.

"It's a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we've enjoyed on this show over the last four years," said series co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg.

"While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn't imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island. We'd like to thank Chris, Carmi and everyone at Starz for all their faith and support, and to our astounding cast and crew for joining us on this ride," he mentioned.

The storyline of "Black Sails" follows the life of most feared pirate of the day, Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and takes place 20 years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "Treasure Island". Robert Levine and Steinberg, along with Chris Symes, Dan Shotz and Brad Caleb Kane, created the series.

According to reports, "Black Sails" has been distributed in nearly 200 countries and territories across the globe. In addition, the first three seasons of "Black Sails" had averaged 3.6 million viewers per episode, according to reports from Nielson and Rentrak.

The series had been nominated for multiple Emmy awards, and 2016 GLAAD Awards. Thus, it would indeed be a sad day, when the pirate fans will say goodbye to "Black Sails" permanently.
