The recall of Jeep Libertys has expanded to include an additional 137,176 vehicles with model years of 2006-2007.

Chrysler has now recalled approximately 350,000 2004-2007 Jeep Liberty vehicles. The cars were found to have a rear suspension problem that could cause the vehicle to skid or crash. However, Chrysler said they are unaware of any injuries or accidents related to the problem.  

"Some vehicles may be equipped with rear lower control arms that can experience a rear suspension lower control arm fracture due to excessive corrosion due to application of road salts during winter weather conditions," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. "A fracture of the rear lower control arm may result in a loss of vehicle control and may lead to a crash."

Chrysler began recalling the cars in March, which initially included 200,000 vehicles from 2004 to 2005. They have since discovered that later models had the same problem.

Jeep dealers will replace the suspensions free of charge on all affected vehicles sold or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

The affected vehicles include those built between July 3, 2003 and June 29, 2007. If you own a Jeep Liberty, you can check the manufacturing date by looking at a plate in the driver's door jamb.
