RAV4, Acadia and Honda Pilot Being Investigated for Possible Safety Problems

If you drive an Acadia, Outlook or Pilot, you may want to have your car checked before taking it back out on the road.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into complaints about several car models to determine if there are safety concerns that need to be investigated.

Toyota RAV4, GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and Honda Pilot SUVs will all be examined for alleged safety problems. These problems range from rusty undercarriages to headlights that that abruptly stop working.

The agency has received complaints about 2006 to 2008 Toyota RAV4s regarding suspension problems. The complaints allege corrosion-related failure of rear suspension-arm assemblies. Four complaints claim that parts of the suspension broke while driving over 35 mph.

A preliminary evaluation has been started by the NHTSA to investigate the claims. From 2006 to 2008, Toyota sold 461,812 RAV4s.

The agency has also received more over 400 complaints about the GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. The problem stems from headlights that suddenly go out without warning, which is said to be an issue of an overheating wiring harness. It has been reported in vehicles from the model years of 2007 to 2009. During that time, GMC sold 253,113 Acadias and Outlooks.

Finally, the NHTSA will investigate 2005 Honda Pilots based on a petition claiming malfunctions of the stability control systems. They have received 35 complaints about the vehicle, some stating that malfunctions include the involuntary application of brakes. Ten of the complaints have been filed this year, while the first was reported in 2005. Honda sold 142,353 2005 Pilots.
