On Monday, automobile giant Toyota Motor Corp issued a statement saying that they need a recall of atleast 1.6 million vehicles in US. The recall was due to the Takata airbags located in front passenger seat that is feared to burst out.

According to Reuters, just earlier this May, Takata Corp revealed that they are looking atleast 35 - 40 million US inflators defective due to the wish of US regulators. The issue was said to have affected citizens and responsible for 100 injuries and 13 deaths internationally.

Toyota Motor Corp said that the recall will comprise the models of Corolla, Matrix, Yaris, 4Runner, Sienna, Scion xB, Lexus ES, GS and IS units that are manufactured from years 2006 to 2011 but assured that not all units of those models. They've added that due to this Takata airbag incidents, the company already summoned more than 4.73 million vehicles in the United States alone.

Economic Times also wrote that there are 17 automakers who's dealing with the same issue and will recall some of their products within the week. Daimler AG's spokeswoman said in a statement that a separate 197,000 vehicles in the United States are also subjected to be recalled.

Prior to this, Takata submitted report to the US auto safety regulators indicating that 14 million airbag inflators have been found with defects. This is the first of the series and promises that they should expect 35 - 40 million recalls by 2019.

Takata's issue regarding airbag is deemed as the highest number of recalls in history of auto safety. The airbags that proved to be defective are said to explode in too much force that could send shrapnel to vehicles. Other automakers involved in the issue of Takata airbag are Tesla Motors, Fisker Automotive, Jaguar Land Rover, Honda Motor Corp, Ford Motor Co., and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
