Michael Caine Ditches Rolls-Royce For Modest Reasons

British actor Sir Michael Caine has put his country ahead of luxury and ditched his Rolls-Royce.

In an exclusive interview to The Telegraph, the actor said it "did not feel right to have such items when so many people were struggling to make ends meet in the current financial climate."

Caine turned in his Rolls-Royce for a "modest" Lexus. Caine, who starred in classic films such as "Zulu," "The Italian Job" and "Cider House Rules," was born and brought up in a class family.

"I used to drive a Rolls and all that but they were just too ostentatious for this world now," Caine told People magazine. "I had to get rid of them. It didn't feel right to be all showy when there are people scraping and scrimping to feed their loved ones.

"I still have the Rolex but I leave that in a draw and wear this cheap black plastic one instead. It does the job. I'm very fortunate I live in fantastic luxury but it doesn't mean I should forget where I came from. I've seen both sides - rich and poor. That's why all that bling has gone. I don't need all that. I don't need any reassurances about anything. I'm perfectly happy within my own skin. I don't need to impress anybody. I don't try to impress anybody."
