Usain Bolt Injured In Car Crash

Olympic gold medalist and world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, was involved in a minor car crash on Friday in his Caribbean homeland of Jamaica.

No serious injuries were reported.

"He is fine and resting at home," Bolt's publicist, Carole Beckford, told The Associated Press.

The three-time Olympic champion was returning from a party with friends in the early hours of Sunday morning when he was involved in a "fender bender" in Jamaica's capital of Kingston.

Police in the Half-Way-Tree area where the accident took place say they are still investigating, but it appears that the sprinting champ somehow lost control of his black BMW and swerved into guard rails shortly after 5 a.m. local time.

"My friend and countryman (Bolt) is ok after a fender bender," read Bolt's Jamaican sprinting teammate Asafa Powell's twitter page.

Powell was travelling in another car when the accident took place and was at the scene of Bolt's accident. Powell's Twitter also cleared up rumors that he was also injured in the accident. "Contrary to the news, I was in another car," read the Twitter message.

Both Bolt and Powell recently returned from the Diamond League in Norway. Bolt recovered from a very poor start to win the 100 meters in 9.79 seconds topping his counterpart Powell by 0.06 seconds.

"He should be more careful on the roads. Jamaica cannot afford to lose a precious athletic gem as 'Lightning Bolt," said Rashalee Mitchell, an assistant lecturer at Jamaica's University of the West Indies.
