At the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, Porsche featured the improved fixed roof 718 Cayman. The introduction followed the recent unveiling of the hardtop Porsche Boxster.
A number of revisions were made on the Porsche 718 Cayman, including a four-cylinder engine in two unique capacities, which is a change from its predecessor’s naturally aspirated 2.7-liter flat six-cylinder unit.
Drive reveals that the Porsche 718 Cayman will become available in September 2016. There will be two options for potential buyers – the 2.0-liter Porsche 718 Cayman, and the 257kW 2.5-liter 718 Porsche 718 Cayman S. The 2.0-liter model is 18kW more powerful and features 90Nm more torque compared to the six-cylinder engine it replaced, with 220kW and 380Nm with 1950 to 4500rpm. The 2.5-liter engine replaced the naturally aspirated 3.4-liter six-cylinder unit and is 36kW more powerful and has 50Nm more torque.
Both the Porsche 718 Boxster and both models of the 718 Cayman have the same pair of turbocharged four-cylinder engines. As for the gearbox, drivers may choose between a standard six-speed manual or optional seven-speed dual clutch automatic.
The second option and Sport Chrono package allows the 718 Cayman to accelerate from zero to 100kmh in 4.7 seconds and acquire a top speed of 275kmh, which is faster by 0.7 second and 11kmh compared to the current model. The Cayman S can go from zero to 100kmh in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 285kmh, which is 0.4 second and 4kmh faster than its predecessor.

The updated Porsche 718 Cayman features a revised front bumper with bigger cooling ducts. The vehicle’s shape also had some additions to its structure and included new indicator repeater lamps. The back of the mid-engined coupe had new tail lamps, new tailpipes and an enhanced bumper with an altered diffuser element. The design on the 718 Cayman resembled a central trapezoid, while the Cayman S featured a standard double round setup.
Other performance upgrades include a revised brake system with 330mm front steel discs and 299mm rear steel discs. The 2016 chassis was also provided with retuned dampers, firmer springs, wider rear tires, more direct steering, anti-roll bars with bigger diameters and the optional Porsche Active Suspension Management.
The interior of the new Cayman showcased a revised dashboard, the newest Porsche Communication Management system and a module with Apple CarPlay and Porsche Car Connect support, among others. The steering wheel was particularly inspired by the Porsche 918 Spyder.
CNet writes that the Porsche 718 Cayman has a starting price of $53,900, while the 718 Cayman S starts at $66,300.
