2016 Chevy Cruze Gets High Rating For MPGs

The new 2016 Chevy Cruze is one of those models designed to be fuel savers, and as a result, it gained recognition from the EPA for its 42 mpg rating. The redesigned compact is now within the big leagues along with its competition namely, Toyota Corolla LE Eco and Honda Civic 1.5T.

According to a CarandDriver post, the Honda received a rating of 31/42, while the Toyota was a little snag behind at 30/42 mpg city/highway. While the Cruze LS, L, and LT's may be fitted with standard 6-speed manual transmissions, its numbers are considerably below the rest at 29/41 mpg city/highway.

With new Chevy Cruze models coming out later this year, the improvements in its efficiency are relative to its new 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharger as well as a lighter curb weight and reduced aerodynamic features, according to the news agency.

InsiderCarNews also says the 2016 Chevy Cruze's mpg is a surprise in comparison to its predecessors' ratings which were at 30 mpg, 26 mpg city, and 38 mpg highway in total. The engine of the 2016 Cruze isn't the only key to success with the improvement seen in the model's fuel efficiency.

General Motors' engineering unit have also lowered down the car's aerodynamic pull to about 0.29 Cd (that's drag coefficient) and the overall weight has been reduced by 250 pounds. An auto stop/start feature was also integrated with the new car line for city driving.

The manual transmission Cruze type is anticipated to show fuel economy to fall a bit down to 33 mpg, 29 mpg city, and 41 mpg highway combined. Customers who opt to purchase the Premium trim can also expect the slight reduction in fuel economy, with a rating of 40 mpg highway. GM's initial estimates on the new Chevy Cruze fuel economy rate have been superseded with what the new model gave during the EPA testing, as per the news agency.
