Luxury Cars Owned By Government Officials Auctioned in China

The local government of Yulin, a city in China's Shaanxi province, has attracted the world by auctioning unique vehicles for the first time.

The city government authorities held a public auction on June 3 and featured 20 luxury cars used by government officials. Cars were sold from 5.56 million Yuan ($873,500) and a SUV sold for 980,000 Yuan ($154,406). The money collected from the auctioning off the high-priced vehicles was turned over to the city's finance department.

"The luxury vehicles broke regulations issued by the central government regarding which vehicles can be purchased by the government and state-owned enterprises,"  An official with the city's government office, Li Bo, told The China Daily

According to The China Daily, the cars which were auctioned and owned by top government officials have violated the purchasing guidelines. And also when the local city government launched an investigation, it was found true and more than 153 vehicles were seized from the top executive from state-owned enterprises.

"The 20 cars were the first batch of vehicles to be dealt with," Li said. "The other seized cars will be dealt with later."

More than 230 people attended the auction.

"I want to buy a second-hand car and I think the cars auctioned would be in good conditions as they were used by the government and state-owned enterprises," Auctioneer, Gao said. "So, I came to see if I can buy one."
