Beverly Hills Wants Self-Driving Cars, Will Tesla, Audi, Google, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan Enter the Market and Streets?

A new game changer for Beverly Hills as the council finally decided to improve and augment the transportation system of the region. In line with that, notions of Audi, Google, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan to enter market and streets of Beverly Hills are forecast to arise.

It is undeniable that driverless cars are pushing in a new era of trade and travel these days. Owing to the need to innovate, Beverly Hills is set to forming its own fleet of self-driving cars that boasts of grandeur, of elegance and dominion and in turn transport the rich and the famous to any place they desired to go.

Meanwhile, a prior post from Engadget revealed that the city's council has all agreed to support the production of the self-driving cars. It would then be used to provide on-demand shuttle service in the area. The system would use the citywide fiber optic network which is already being worked on so that the driverless cars can initiate communication.

However, the first segment of the motion requires Beverly Hills to collaborate and initiate joint ventures with autonomy-minded car brands like Google and Tesla, so this would be more of collaboration than a from-scratch project, as further noted by the same post.

A glitch however is detected since as of the moment, there is no concrete timetable for the fleet but Beverly Hills is a wealthy district hence the region can afford to render extensive coverage for its entire area and immersed it with self-driving service. Nevertheless if Beverly Hills' plan were attained successfully, the region would be a forerunner and would serve as template for larger-scale autonomous driving efforts for other cities, regions, and nations to follow.

More report from the Verge stated that the Beverly Hills Mayor John Mirisch is supporting the autonomous vehicles to be in the streets. In addition, "This is a game-changer for Beverly Hills and, we hope, for the region. Beverly Hills is the perfect community to take the lead to make this technology a reality. It is now both feasible and safe for autonomous cars to be on the road," said Mirisch.

"While branding mavens may yet figure out a snappier name or acronym, let's refer to this municipal car pool system in the meantime as MASS (Municipal Automated Shuttle System), which would also have the added benefit of allowing for a variety of clichéd puns such as critical MASS, MASS transit, and MASS appeal," added Mirisch.

With the motion gaining successful support, time is of the essence and it remains uncertain on whether beside Tesla and Google, Audi, Google, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan would enter the market and join the competition to run the streets and lanes of the prestigious Beverly Hills.
