Audi is reportedly crafting a new sports car set to join its R series. The automobile is expected to get large inspiration from some Porsche models.
The information comes from German source Autobild, which adds that the vehicle currently carries the internal codename PO455. That being said, prospects are yet to learn an official moniker.
Details are light at the moment, but PO455 is believed to be a mid-engined model that draws inspiration from the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. It is speculated that the car will be branded as an R6 unit, WorldCarFans noted. Hence, prospects can likely expect a Porsche-looking car powered by Audi's all-wheel drive technology and various engines.
Autobild claims that Audi intends to spread costs through the upcoming sports car instead of hopping in the hyped SUV bandwagon, Jalopnik wrote. The vehicle is touted to take space between the company's TT and R8 models.
Speculations surrounding Audi's mid-engined and mid-size sports car have been around since the announcement of the "quattro" at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Motoring.com.au said. CarBuzz expects the appearance of the vehicle "in the next few years," but because Audi has not confirmed progress on such model yet, these details are to be taken with a pinch of salt.
In other Audi news, its Sport Team Joest has chosen to appeal the disqualification of the #7 R18 at Silverstone, Motorsport reported. The entry was driven by Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler.
"Audi Sport Team Joest has appealed the decision to exclude the Number 7 car from the results. Hence the race result will depend on the decision of a sport tribunal," Audi said in an official statement.
The team reiterates non-finality of the result, "Audi Sport Team Joest has appealed against the exclusion of winners Marcel Fassler/André Lotterer/Benoit Treluyer. Hence the result of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season opener remains provisional."
