Mahindra E2O EV Launches In UK

Indian car maker Mahindra makes available its e2o electric car in the United Kingdom. The deliveries will start in May, but the orders can be already placed online.

Mahindra e2o is a tree-door hatchback with four seats and has a claimed range of 79 miles. The e20 can be seen as today's successor to the G-Wiz city car.

According to The Sunday Times Driving, the Indian manufacturer will produce the battery-powered Mahindra e2o at the company's factory in Bangalore. Mahindra targets auto markets in the western world, where fuel-hungry conventional cars attract penalties and electric vehicles are subsidized.

Depending on the trim level, the e2o will be priced on the U.K. market from £13,000 to £16,000. Compared to the Renault Twizy which starts at £6,895, the price tag of the Mahindra e2o might look expensive. But, unlike the G-Wiz and Twizy classified as quadricycles, the e2o is a larger four-seats car that comes complete with airbags.

In the U.K. the e2o electric car has a price more than double that of its Indian equivalent costing approximately £6000. However, the e2o available on the British auto market is an upgraded version of its Indian counterpart and will come with a higher quality interior, a larger battery and more safety equipment.

According to the publication Autocar, among the two trim levels available, the higher-spec TechX includes alloy wheels, leather seats, Revive remote emergency recharging, a rapid charging port, telematics and touchscreen infotainment with a reversing camera. The fast charge option in e2o TechX is taking 1.5 hours.

The price range of Mahindra e2o EV still makes it cheaper than cars like the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe, which cost £25,790 and £18,445 respectively. Mahindra plans to offer a finance scheme for the e2o, including business leasing options, PCP and hire purchase.

The top speed of the e2o EV can reach 63mph. The electric car can achieves 0-25mph in just 4.9sec. The EV features a 42bhp electric motor that provides 67lb ft of instantly available torque. The engine is powered by a13.9kWh lithium-ion battery and it takes nine hours to charge from empty.
