Toyota Set To Lunch Racing Series In India In 2013

Toyota, in association with its Indian distribution partner Kirloskar, is launching a six-race Etios Motors Racing series across three cities in India next year.

The racing series will be held at Buddh International circuit in Noida, which hosted its first Formula One Grand Prix last year.

Hitoshi Fukui, Managing Coordinator-Marketing, says that the racing series will also be held in the cities of Chennai and Coimbatore.

"We're planning to hold two races each in these cities," Fukui told reporters.

Selection of drivers will occur over the next two days, 25 Indian drivers would pay Rs 1.5 lakh each as a registration fee to take part in the championships. The top three drivers would have a chance to participate in championships overseas run by Toyota, Fukui said.

According to auto experts, the racing series will definitely open up new opportunities for budding race car enthusiast to test their mettle on a real race tracks competing with other race champions in India.

"We started the process with over 3,000 applications, pruned it down to 50 from which the final 25 would be selected," General Manager for Toyota Kirloskar, RK Ramesh told The Indian Express

Selected race drivers will be trained by professional drivers and instructors from the company and local racing experts to guide them in handling different racing environments.
