TireVan Supports National Tire Safety Week

TireVan, a tire retailer and mobile tire installer, announced today that it is partnering with the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) again this year to promote National Tire Safety Week (June 3 - June 9).

As part of the campaign, TireVan's skilled mobile technicians will set up "Tire Check Pit Stops" at DC area employers and provide free tire wear inspection, tire pressure checks, and inflation correction for drivers that stop by. They will educate drivers on the proper way to check tire pressure and emphasize the safety and environmental benefits of driving on properly maintained tires. Companies hosting TireVan Tire Check Pit Stops include major employers like George Mason University, Navy Federal Credit Union, Orbital Sciences, Noblis and MITRE Corporation.

A recent study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that vehicles with tires underinflated by 25% or greater are over three times more likely to be involved in a crash related to tires than vehicles with properly inflated tires. More importantly, statistics show that underinflated tires contribute to over 600 fatalities and 33,000 injuries annually.  In addition, underinflated tires can cost a driver $800 in higher gasoline consumption every year.

Phil Pifer, President and CEO of TireVan said:  "Maintaining tires at their proper inflation pressure and in good condition is one of the most important things drivers can do to improve a vehicle's safety and fuel efficiency.  Only a few minutes at one of our Tire Check Pit Stops can save money, and potentially lives."

A survey by RMA found that 55% of US vehicles have at least one underinflated tire.  Perhaps the most surprising statistic of all is that 64% of drivers do not know how to determine if their tires are worn and need to be replaced.  This data reconfirms and reinforces the importance of driving on properly inflated tires.

Dan Zielinski, RMA senior VP of public affairs said, "Too many U.S. drivers are not performing the necessary tire maintenance to get optimum safety and fuel efficiency.  Motorists need regular reminders to check their tire pressure and TireVan's efforts to deliver these essential messages to the driving public are greatly appreciated."

TireVan is the largest and fastest-growing mobile tire business in the United States.  TireVan provides mobile tire service throughout the Washington DC and Philadelphia metropolitan areas. TireVan offers car owners the convenience of mobile tire installation at home or work, a full selection of major tire brands, and great tire prices that save money.
