Mercedes To Debut The Powerhouse G500 4x4 In The US; Check Out The Specs

There are rumors that the powerful Mercedes G500 4x4² will be coming to the United States soon.

According to Bart Herring, general manager of product planning of Mercedes US, the company is very close to a good decision in potentially making the G500 4x4² available to the American market. Herring also said that they intend for the G-Class to be available for the long term.

The G500 4x4² features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 422 horsepower to all four wheels, writes MSN. There are portal axles and suspension boosts that will provide more than enough ground clearance. It has 22-inch wheels and 325/55-series tires. The off-roader is the more practical version of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6. If the vehicle indeed makes it way in the U.S., it may at least be $255,000, but some expect it to be more expensive than the ones being offered on sale in Germany.

Motor1 notes that the G-Class provided several improvements in 2016, such as the mild adjustment in the front fascia, a wider color palette and more powerful engines, while maintaining its rugged and solid form and performance that people always loved. The G-Class is the foundation of Mercedes’ SUV segment and all utility vehicles that the company offers will showcase a few G features.

CarandDriver adds that 14,000 G500 4x4² units sold in 2014 and Daimler was able to enjoy huge profits. The company decided to invest more in the G-Wagen. The G63 AMG 6x6 surprised many and was an ideal model for the military. For people living in the city, however, the G500 4x4² was more convenient and practical choice. Both the G63 AMG 6x6 and G500 4x4² featured the unique portal axles that make use of gears in the hubs to let the axle position itself higher compared to the wheel centers, thereby providing several extra inches of ground clearance that lets the vehicles move over rocks and ford water with ease.

The G500 4x4² also has electronically controlled dampers that can be adjusted to either Comfort or Sport. The powerful V8 engine can let the vehicle move from 0 to 60mph in under six seconds, while the top speed is around 130mph. Overall, the G500 4x4² is a great vehicle for city and country driving.

The sales of the G-Class increased by 15 percent in the U.S. in 2015, which may also be one of the major reasons why the company is planning to add the G500 4x4² in the lineup soon.
