The 2017 Alfa Romeo Stelvio continues to gain attention as new spy photos surfaced this week.
Sporting what looks like a Giullieta silhouette, the Italian manufacturer's first SUV is expected to be unveiled later this year, Wheels Australia reported. According to the outlet, co-development with Maserati is something fans can look forward to in hopes of a sports car performance.
The recent spy photos suggest a generously-cloaked prototype which, nevertheless, pegs an Alfa Romeo aesthetic. Auto Express noted that its shape appears "pretty faithful" to their exclusive image. Prospects can ignore the idea of a radical design overhaul, as the Stelvio draws inspiration from the all-new style of the Guilia.
As the images suggest, the SUV comes with the memorable shield grille, two large air intakes, petite rear windows and a curved roofline. If this is the real deal, prospects can expect a familiar Alfa vibe.
On top of being a competent SUV, the Stelvio is also pegged to be the best-in-class in on-road ability. Autoblog sees standard versions getting a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder treatment, making 276 horsepower in the sedan. A Quadrifoglio version, on the other hand, can house the Giulia's 505-hp 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6.
It will likely come as a rival to the BMW X4 and the Mercedes GLC Coupe, carwow predicted. With regards to pricing, the outlet sees a £38,000 starting point, depending on engine and interior specs, among other factors.
It is also touted to shadow the BMW X3's price. Cost could range from a $60,000 2.0-litre turbo to a $100,000 Quadrifoglio Verde, Wheels Australia wrote.
Meanwhile, fans may want to look at the Stelvio's launch between October and November. As Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne previously confirmed the SUV's unveiling at a major auto show in autumn, carwow expects the vehicle's appearance at either the Paris Motor Show or the Los Angeles Auto Show.
