2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Gets The Hellcat Treatment, Placing It At Par With The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Jeep is about to launch its fastest model yet with the Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat. Set to launch in July 2017, the powerful model features a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 707 horsepower.

The upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat is expected to compete with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, which has 561bhp, the Range Rover Sport SVR, which has 542bhp, and the BMW X5 M. At present, the Grand Cherokee SRT is in the low end in terms of performance. Things are expected to change much, provided that the new model can churn out the needed power after the Hellcat treatment.

Digital Trends cites that Jeep CEO Mike Manley confirmed the official production date in the United States. The model will be the fastest ever yet by the company and will most likely showcase 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

Birmingham Post reveals that the Hellcat treatment will provide the new Jeep with the same powerful engine that the Dodge Charger Hellcat and Challenger SRT Hellcat. Generally, the Hellcat treatment gives the vehicle a power output of at least 700bhp, so the upcoming Grand Cherokee should be expected to showcase the same.

At present, Jeep’s most powerful SUV is the Grand Cherokee SRT, with 461bhp. It has a top speed of about 157 and can move from 0 to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds. Even if the Hellcat treatment would not provide 700bhp to the new Jeep, it will still be significantly more powerful than its predecessor, and will be ahead of several super-SUVs in the U.S. and Europe. The Jeep Hellcat may accelerate from 0 to 60mph in less than four seconds and boast a top speed of over 175mph. The company is also expected to provide additional adjustments that will match the added performance, such as the braking system and chassis.

It is still uncertain whether Jeep will use the “Trackhawk” name to the upcoming Grand Cherokee. The name has been used by the company for off-road focused models. There are rumors that Jeep will use the badge, while others claim that the new unit will become available together with the Trackhawk.

The price of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat is still unknown in the meantime, although it will most likely be priced much higher than the Grand Cherokee SRT, which currently retails at $66,490. The Hellcat/Trackhawk may be sold for at least $75,000.

More updates and details on the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat are expected soon.
