Later this year, will return a performance version of the Audi A4 estate, powered by turbocharged V6 engine. A sedan variant will follow.
For its new RS4 Avant model, Audi is changing the previous natural aspirated V8 in favor of a six-cylinder engine, electrically turbocharged. According to Car Scoops, reports coming in from Germany claim that a small electric turbocharger will be paired with a modified version of the current S4's 3.0-liter V6 engine.
The RS4 will likely use an electrically turbocharged V-6 3.0-liter engine that will provide around 500HP. This is a considerable increase over the previous 4.2-liter V8 engine installed in B8 RS4, according to the Automobile Mag. It is reported that the new Audi RS5 coupe will also use the new engine.
All-wheel drive with asymmetric rear-biased torque split will be a standard feature. The new RS4 Avant will likely feature exclusively a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Batteries recharged from a generator will power the electric turbocharger. The generator will recover lost energy under braking.
The turbocharger setup will greatly boost low-speed performance and completely eliminate lag, providing instant boost at low rpm. For high-end performance a conventional exhaust gas-driven turbocharger will take over. The system is providing the additional benefit of being simpler than traditional twin-turbo setups. The regular turbocharger kicks in as soon as the system detects high enough exhaust pressure.
The RS4 Avant will have key differences over the S4. Among them are included distinct flared fenders on all four corners. a more aggressive front spoiler, a unique grille and intake treatment in line with other RS cars. The car will come with Interior upgrades at the instrument panel and steering wheel, model-specific front seats and sportier trim accents.
Since the 2008 model year, the Audi RS4 Avant has not been sold in the United States. Audi is considering re-introducing an RS4 sedan on the U.S. and China auto markets, according to Autocar.
According to the same publication, the Audi RS4 will be launched on the market before the end of 2016. It is expected that the RS4 Avant will make its first public appearance in early October, at the Paris Motor Show, followed by a sedan body style.
