Honda has announced that it will take extra effort to enhance the performance of its car combustion engines. Last year, the company's return to Formula 1 was hindered because of some technical issues in its engines.
The Japanese car maker has earlier admitted that its performance in F1 for the latest season is not good enough. More developments still need to be made in order to address the energy shortage issue which was experienced by racers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button last year while on the racetrack.
According to Motorsport, Honda fixed the aforementioned issue by redesigning the size of the compressor of the engine during the winter season. But the company will not stop there, the automaker also plans to address the issue of overall horsepower gap of its racing vehicles compared to that of its rival companies. With this move, the game would be even for car racers.
Honda F1 chief Yusuke Hasegawa stated that the company is first focused on enhancing the areas that needed immediate attention. Now, Honda is on the mission of improving the internal combustion performance of their racing vehicles.
"It is very difficult to tell but we concentrated on reliability first and I think we improved the reliability areas, although we had issues [in Bahrain]," said Hasegawa as per the publication.
"Now [we will focus] on the internal combustion performance - power - as we know that the current power isn't good enough to get a Q3 position. So that's what I can tell... I think the current performance is reasonable," the Honda chief added.
Jenson Button of the McLaren Honda team has stated that he is now more confident with the latest improvements in the engine of Honda racing vehicles. Button stated that the power of the car has improved, Crash reports.
"The car gives you a lot of confidence now, which is positive. It seems to keep making a step since Barcelona to the first race and to here. I think we surprised a lot of people in FP2," Button said as per the news portal.
