Check Out Early Photos Of The Much Anticipated 2018 Mazda CX-4

Mazda recently provided a glimpse of the new 2018 Mazda CX-4, which will officially be introduced at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2016.

Mazda previously stated that it is exploring the growing crossover SUV market. The new vehicle is supposed to bridge the gap between the Mazda 3 and Mazda CX-5. The Mazda CX-4 is expected to be slightly smaller compared to the CX-5 with a sportier appearance than the CX-3.

TopSpeed points out that according to the teasers provided by Mazda, the Mazda Koeru concept that that was spotted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show was quite ready for production. The Mazda CX-4 features the KODO-designed front end, with the huge shield-like grille and formed engine hood, the Koeru’s grille frame extending into the headlamps and blacked out chrome.

There might be a less expensive model that features standard chrome. On the back, the CX-4 was highly inspired by the Koeru concept, with a number of changes. The taillights are bigger, the lower tailgate appears smoother and the windscreen is taller. Overall, the CX-4 has a very sporty look with a coupe-like design and blacked out B-pillars and C-pillars.

As for the Mazda CX-4’s interior, the cabin has an infotainment screen over the air-conditioning vents. The buttons and knobs are underneath while the free-standing touchscreen is integrated into the center stack. The steering wheel and center console are almost the same as the CX-5, although the inside space is smaller. The vehicle is expected to feature several premium feature inside.

The Mazda CX-4 should offer transmission choices of a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. It may have the same engine as the CX-5 with a 2.0-liter SkyActiv unit with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. A more powerful version is also available with a 2.5-liter SkyActiv unit with 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. There may also be a 2.2-liter diesel unit with 147 horsepower and 280 pound-feet or a diesel unit with 173 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.

The price of the CX-4 has yet to be announced but it should be close to the Mazda CX-5, which retailed from $21,795 in the United States. Auto Evolution notes that it is still uncertain whether the Mazda CX-4 will also release outside of Asia. Considering the success of its predecessors, the CX-4 is expected to be in high demand. The vehicle is confirmed to make a full debut at the Beijing Motor Show later this month.
