Toyota has issued a recall for 26,000 Scion FR-S models in order to fix a problem with the automatic transmission key interlock.

The issue is that the key interlock in some models may not have been connected during pre-delivery, making it possible for owners to remove the key even if the vehicle isn't parked, according to Carscoops. As a result, the cars don't comply with federal safety standards, and there is a greater risk of them rolling away and crashing.

The recall covers FR-S models made from 2013-2016, and the Japanese automaker has yet to reveal if any injuries or deaths were caused by this problem, Autoblog noted.

"We are not providing specifics at this time," Scion spokesperson Cindy Knight said.

Toyota plans on solving this issue by connecting the automatic transmission interlock, Carscoops reported.

The automaker will notify owners affected by the recall via first class mail, and Knight said that they will begin contacting owners in early March.
