Mitsubishi Motors has issued a recall for 25,185 Mirages over issues with their airbag systems because of certain wires corroding.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Saturday that melting snow could soak through the driver's-side floor carpeting and corrode wire connectors running through a junction box nearby, according to ABC News. This could result in delays in the deployment of the front airbags.

The recall covers 2014 and 2015 models made from August 2013 to September 2015.

The Mirages were sold in states on the East Coast and in the Midwest, including Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan and Minnesota, Autoblog reported.

Mitsubishi has yet to receive reports of crashes or injuries related to the issue.

The NHTSA says that the Japanese automaker will contact owners of the affected vehicles, and dealers will make the necessary fixes to the electrical connectors for free, Autoblog noted. A timeframe for the repairs has yet to be released.

Mirage owners have been advised to avoid tracking in too much snow and pay attention to the SRS warning light on the dashboard, which lets the driver know if there's a problem with the airbags.
