Car Seat Alert: Winter Coats Could Put Your Child In Danger (VIDEO)

Parents may want to rethink about the kind of jacket they bundle their kids up in this winter while going out on the road.

Sue Auriemma from public safety awareness organization Kids and Cars showed NBC's "Today" show the dangers of having a child wear a winter coat while in a car seat when the straps are very loose in a simulated 30-mph crash in Michigan, which showed a child dummy that appeared to be safety strapped in fly out of its seat.

Experts are advising everyone to strap their children securely in their car seat without the coat on, NBC New York reported.

"Instead of putting the coat on him, you can put the coat over him to keep him warm," Auriemma said. "Or you can use a blanket."

Adults are also advised to avoid driving or riding in a car while wearing their winter coats.
