Nissan has recalled almost 34,000 of its 2015 Rogue models to fix a problem with their gear shifts that presents a safety issue for drivers.

The defect involves a faulty shift detector knob that lets the mid-size crossover SUV move out of the park position even when the brake pedal isn't depressed, according to the Associated Press.

Vehicles affected by the recall include Rogues made between Feb. 10, 2015 and May 13, 2015.

The Japanese automaker will contact owners of the affected vehicles, and they will be able to bring their cars to Nissan dealers to have the problem fixed for free, WMUR Manchester reported.
