Hyundai has issued a recall for nearly 305,000 Sonata midsize cars in the U.S. in order to fix a problem they are having with their brake lights.

The South Korean automaker said that the issue centers around the stopper pad between the brake pedal and the plunger that turns the lights on, which can deteriorate and make the plunger stick in the process, according to ABC News. This can cause the brake lights to stay on, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a letter could increase the risk of a crash.

The Sonatas also face the issue of the transmission shifting out of park without the brake on. The system that lets the brake override the gas pedal may also not work.

The recall covers 2011-2012 models made between Dec. 11, 2009 and June 30, 2011, the letter adds, Reuters reported.

Hyundai said Friday that it has not received any reports of injuries or crashes related to the issue. The company is advising owners to take their cars to dealers to have the stopper pad replaced.

The NHTSA said that the recall is expected to begin on Jan. 11, 2016.
