Elon Musk Wants Tesla Model 3 To Have Aerodynamic Design (REPORT)

Reports continue to surface around Tesla's upcoming Model 3, the latest being that CEO Elon Musk wants it to have an aerodynamic design.

Sources with knowledge on the matter claim that Musk is intent on giving the highly anticipated electric car the ability to slip through the air with as little resistance as possible, according to Ubergizmo. The design can improve performance and range, the latter of which being more important for electric cars, by reducing drag.

The latest report stems from a Reddit AMA from a few months ago, in which Musk was asked if he could reveal any new details about the Model 3, to which he responded, "It won't look like other cars," BGR reported.

The rumor is the latest surrounding the Model 3, which was previously reported to cost around $35,000. Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen said in an interview with Gigaom a while back that the Model 3 would be "more expressive" and have a more "couture" design compared to the Model S's classic "ready to wear" design.

While the Model S currently has a drag coefficient of 0.24, Musk is reportedly looking for improvements in this area, telling engineers to give the car a drag coefficient of less than 0.20, Ubergizmo noted. This may indicate a similar design in store for the Model 3.

Whether the Model 3 will indeed sport this unique design will be revealed once Tesla unveils a prototype of the electric car in the first quarter of 2016.
