Classic 1956 Ferrari Could Go For $28M At Auction

The classic 1956 Ferrari 290 MM is expected to sell for $28 million when it gets auctioned at Sotheby's in New York City on Dec. 10, the Associated Press News reported.

The historic race car was built for Formula Once racing legend Juan Manuel Fangio, who used it until 1964. Remarkably, the Ferrari never crashed at all throughout its use.

The title for highest selling car at an auction currently goes to a Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta that sold for $38.1 million in 2014, AP noted.

The current car owner is a private European collector. The previous owner of 34 years is collector Pierre Bardinon.

What makes this car so unique is that it is one of only four Ferrari MMs that were built. The Ferrari raced with a 3.5-liter, V-12 engine in the 1,000 Mille Miglia race and finished fourth overall. It has its original chassis 0626, matching-numbers engine, gearbox and body.
