Mercedes Using Iron Man As Inspiration For New Dashboards (VIDEO)

Mercedes-Benz has reportedly decided to use Iron Man as inspiration for a new dashboard with capabilities that could outshine Google's Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The automaker has resisted adopting Google and Apple's infotainment systems because it has been working on its dashboard technology since 1995. Now that it is close to unveiling it, the company revealed that the Mercedes-Benz' design team is taking inspiration from the Ironman film, particularly with respect to the overall aesthetic look and interface of the dashboard.

"The relationship between driver and vehicle has definitely changed," said Arwed Niestroj, CEO of Mercedes-Benz research and development in North America, SlashGear reported. "So our UX and visual designers employ new technologies accordingly to be even more intuitive and personal."

Mercedes-Benz commissioned The Foundry, a visual effects and graphics design company involved in the Ironman film, in order to implement its design vision. The output of this collaboration is a radically different user interface that focuses on interacting with a 3D visualization of the car that can be spun around instead of navigating a set of menus that could prove confusing to users. The system is also big on gestures and sensors. In order to do all these, the future Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be equipped with processors used by top-of-the-line smartphones and tablets.

The dashboard technology is not yet available in recently released models, such as the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. However, a sense of the Mercedez-Benz technology and the direction it is going in can be seen in the intuitive system outfitted in this vehicle or the interior details of 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The following video also shows an implementation of interior technology in the new Mercedez-Benz F015 that offers an idea on how the automaker conceptualizes the future of mobility.
