Nissan is recalling 218,019 Versa models in the U.S. in order to fix an issue with the suspension.

The problem with the subcompact cars is that road salt can damage the metal springs in the front, which could cause them to break, according to USA Today. The coil springs could cause an accident by falling and puncturing the front tires.

The recall covers Versa models made from 2007 to 2012.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a preliminary evaluation of about 130,000 Nissan Versas back in May after it received complaints about fractures in the front suspension coil spring, Reuters reported.

Nissan has yet to be notified of any incidents involving a crash, property damage, injury or death related to the suspension issue, and it has also yet to comment on the problem.

The NHTSA said that Nissan North America is expected to begin the recall by mid-November, Reuters noted. The company will also recall 101,000 Versa models in Canada that are experiencing the same issue.
