Original Batmobile From 1960s TV Show On Sale For $5 Million

Comic book fans who've wished for their own Batmobile will be happy to hear that the vehicle from the popular 1960s Batman TV show now up for sale, but it doesn't come cheap.

The vehicle, built in 1955 as a concept car from Ford called the Lincoln Futura, is currently waiting for a buyer at the Barrett-Jackson Collection showroom in Arizona, though anyone interested will have to fork over $5 million, according to The Guardian. The sale follows over two years after the Batmobile was made available at an auction for $4.2 million.

The Futura was purchased in 1965 by car customizer George Barris, who managed to turn the vehicle into the Batmobile in only three weeks, just in time for the show's production.

Changes made to the vehicle included bat-inspired designs for the nose and tail. Other superhero touches include rockets, oil slicks, an automatic tire-inflating system and a Batphone. A spokesperson said that the car "perfectly embodied the image of the superhero."

The car was driven by Adam West, who starred as the Caped Crusader in the "Batman" series that ran from 1966 to 1968, The Guardian reported. Other credits for the car include appearing in the 1959 film "It Started with a Kiss."

Whoever buys the vehicle will also receive a Batmobile pinball machine signed by West and documents from Barris's private collection of replica Batmobiles.
