Tesla To Give Model X To Select Drivers In Late September, SUV Starting At $132,000

Tesla Motors will make its Model X SUV available to select drivers holding reservations in late September, and the new car doesn't come cheap.

This came after the privately-run Tesla Motors Club forum was inundated Monday with screenshots from users posting their reservations, which included configuration dashboards. The reservations involve the Model X's Signature Series, which will be the first shipments to roll off the assembly line, Business Insider reported.

The reservation owners are so far women, which confirms the recent stories- including a previous HNGN report- that emerged in the past few months touting the Tesla Model X as the minivan for the ladies. The chosen few get to configure their Model X from the nine paint colors, wheel size and the ability to drive in "ludicrous speed."

Aside from Tesla's green technology that powers the Model X's 90 kilowatt-hour battery, the buyer gets a minivan sporting awesome "falcon wing" rear doors, rear hitch for skis or bicycles as well as seriously high tech sensors that allow the vehicle its autopilot features, which include self-parking, air suspension, satellite radio, ventilated seats equipped with cooling and heating mechanisms and independently operable seats, according to Bloomberg.

The reservation holders need to prepare $132,000 for the base price before the federal tax credits, gas savings and other incentives are discounted. The Ludicrous mode upgrade would cost an additional $10,000. While the price tag is seriously eye-watering, the limited edition Signature Series is top of the line, Business Insider noted.

Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, has assured those interested in buying the Model X that demand will be met, citing that the Tesla Production Line 2 is now working full swing. There are "542 robots in total with 15 operating simultaneously at the central assembly point," he said in a Motley Fool report.
