Rental Car Company Catches Heat For 'Transphobic' Tweet Toward Caitlyn Jenner

American rent-a-car company Sixt is getting a great deal of heat for a tweet to retired athlete Caitlyn Jenner that people have deemed "transphobic" and offensive on social media.

The issue started when Sixt attempted to make a joke in a tweet referring to Jenner's gender transition after living 64 years as a male, according to The Independent. "Hey Caitlyn. Try this crossover," the tweet read, including a picture of an Audi.

Crossovers are vehicles that combine features of an SUV and a hatchback into one car.

Many Twitter users did not take too kindly to the attempted joke and went to the social media site to express their displeasure with Sixt's post, The Daily Caller reported. Several users have blasted the tweet as "transphobic" and asked for an apology from the company.

"@SixtUSA As a Tran-woman myself, I am offended. Please take this down!" Twitter user Alexandra Shepiro wrote.

"@SixtUSA guaranteeing I will NEVER use your company. Ummm ... fire your ad guy," user Lynn_Leslie wrote.

Sixt has since deleted the post and has yet to comment on the situation, The Independent reported. The company has gotten itself in similar situations on social media in the past, having previously tried to take advantage of the recent Ashley Madison hack to sell cars.

Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, came out as transgender in April of this year and currently stars in the TV show "I Am Cait," which centers on her life during her transition.
