Bugatti has confirmed the new Veyron hypercar will use a hybrid powertrain, according to Auto Car.

Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn confirmed the news to German newspaper Bild, Jalopnik reports. It makes perfect sense. If you put together a group of the fastest, most technologically advanced cars, you would have hybrid hypercars.

We know the new Bugatti Veyron hybrid will be fast, but how fast? How about hitting a speed of 286 mph and generating 1479bhp? Those are the expectations for the new Veyron. The Veyron successor will get an updated turbocharged 8.0 liter W16 engine, according to Bold Ride, which will pump out all of those horses, all 1479 of them.

Five powertrains are being tested in prototypes of the Veyron, undergoing various conceptual engineering tests. Active aerodynamics are a factor engineers are pinpointing as well, Bold Ride reports. In an effort to produce at a fast rate when the new model is all ironed out, assembly facilities in Molsheim, France are already being prepped in wait of the new hypercar. Four hundred fifty units of the new model will be created, and the reveal date is set for some time in 2016. The new Bugatti Veyron should be ready for customer deliveries the following year.
