The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will conduct an investigation on Ford F-150 pickup trucks built from 2011 to 2012, Car And Driver Reports.

After many complaints from drivers over the alleged loss of the power brake assist system in the F-150, the NHTSA will look into the problem. It has been reported that 32 complaints have been filed. Two accidents have taken place as a result of the brake failures. One accident occurred when a driver was backing up at 5 miles per hour and crashed into a tree due to the brake failure, The Bell Jar news reports.

When the power brake assist fails, the driver must use more effort when pushing the brake. It also causes the car to travel further distances when coming to a complete stop. This can obviously cause an accident if the driver is not aware of the brake failure.

None of the reported complaints have stated that the driver received a warning or notification of a brake issue in their truck.

The investigation involves trucks which have an electric vacuum-assist pump, according to The Detroit News, as well as a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6.

Ford is cooperating with the NHTSA during the investigation, which can lead to possible recalls.
