Honda unveiled its latest Concept C and Concept S models at the ongoing Beijing International Auto Show.
By displaying its concept models at the show, the Japanese automaker is sending a message that it is targeting the car market in China. The company officially clears the air that the "C" of Concept C stands for "Curiosity, Challenge, and China" and "S" of the other model stands for "Surprise, Suspense, and Superiority"
“In all these years, the Honda Motors has been attempting on introducing concept models in Japan and later on we moved from there after delivering our best results in terms of the sales figure," said Takanobu Ito, CEO of Honda, while addressing the press meet at the Beijing Auto Show.
"Now we are determined to make our mark in China with introducing concept models exclusively built for Chinese audience. We are competing on our own. There was the time when the global car market was circled around the U.S. market. But now things have changed and Honda has completely moved away from it. Now, we think China has the huge potential to expose towards some of the world class concept models from the Honda Motors,” said Ito.
The company also stated that it will spend $560 million in the next two years in China to start its own engine plant and build cars for the local market. The plan also includes introducing 10 more world class cars by 2015 with the goal of doubling its sales figure compared to 2001.
“It is also an opportunity for us to rethink on loosing so much amount of time to enter into China. We indeed wasted our time for all these years. If we had entered long back maybe we could have made our strong presence like other competitors. We consider the Beijing Auto Show as a platform to bring in our all the strategies at work and begin a new dream for China,” said Ito.
