Lexus, Toyota's luxury brand, has created a working hoverboard, according to USA Today.

Like something out of a science fiction movie, the snowboard-like machine is able to float above the ground. Unlike jetpacks, this hoverboard does not operate by compressed air, nor does it levitate through an energy field. This design uses liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets, responsible for creating magnetic levitation, Auto Week reports. Lexus has also managed to embed its signature logo on the snowboard-looking device.

"It's the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination," said Mark Templin, a Lexus vice president, in an article by Ars Technica.

There is a catch, unfortunately, as Lexus has stated that this hoverboard is just a prototype and will not be for sale.

The board needs a magnetic field in order to hover, although the video shows it lifting off from what looks like concrete. Magnets are, in fact, beneath the surface, according to Engadget.

The hoverboard is currently being tested in Barcelona, Spain in a controlled environment for an advertising campaign.
