Yesterday, on a visit to Detroit with General Motors, we had the chance to explore some of Chevrolet's new vehicles that will debut in the coming year—from the economy-minded Spark hatchback to the sporty Camaro coupe.

The second-generation Volt hybrid-electric plug-in vehicle was also on display, and we couldn't resist poking around its futuristic-looking interior. Staring us in the face was the full charge icon, which displayed a range of 54 miles. Not bad, we say, for the frequent commuter looking to run only on electric power. The greater importance is that the figure is more than the predicted 50-mile electric-only range, but—as any smartphone user in extreme temperatures knows—your mileage may vary.
