Fisker Expands in Middle East and North Africa

Fisker Automotive announced Monday to expand significantly in the areas of Middle East and North Africa.

The automaker, who makes luxury electric vehicles with extended range, has signed an exclusive agreement with the Al-Futtaim Group, one of the leading distributors in the region. Fisker’s expansion in the area will begin sometime this year at Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, according to the company.

“Fisker Automotive is committed to changing the automotive landscape globally, delivering a more sustainable future through our products,” said Henrik Fisker, executive chairman, in Monday’s statement.

“It’s essential for us to compete strongly in the Middle East and Gulf region as the company expands outside America and extends its reach globally,” he added.

Fisker Automotive was founded in 2007, making luxury electric vehicles with extended range. The company introduced its first model Karma in 2008, which became available in 2011. The new concept model Atlantic, originally called “Project Nina”, was unveiled earlier this month at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.

Len Hunt, President of Al-Futtaim Group, expressed his excitement about Fisker’s decision.

“We are excited to represent Fisker Automotive across the Gulf and MENA Region as exclusive distributors of the luxury plug-in hybrid brand. Al-Futtaim has built strength and credibility in delivering great customer experience through its well established automotive operations in Egypt and the GCC countries,” said Hunt.

According to the announcement, the distribution was facilitated by a consulting firm Pacific Med Trade Inc.
