Daimler is now taking orders in Germany for Mercedes-Benz battery packs designed specifically for small businesses and homes.

The automaker says it will send out "Business" and "Home" variants in Germany at first though there are plans to slowly expand sales to other countries eventually, like the U.S.

"Developed for demanding service onboard cars, the Mercedes-Benz energy storage units meet the very highest safety and quality standards," a Daimler press release reads.

The announcement comes just a month after Tesla debuted its new Powerwall home battery and Powerpack for businesses.

While Tesla's batteries are made at its company factory in California, Daimler's batteries will be created by Accumotive, a subsidiary of the German automaker.

Accumotive already supplies lithium-ion battery systems for Daimler rides and has been making battery systems for commercial or industrial use since 2012.

Like Tesla's Powerwall, the batteries are capable of storing solar energy during off-peak hours for homes or offices to draw from when rates are higher. Eight battery packs can be combined for a whopping total of 20 kWh, according to Daimler.

Pricing for each unit is not available yet, though Tesla's go for $3,000 for the 7kWh pack and $3,500 for 10 kWh option, plus installation and inverter.

The device will be on display for all to behold at the Intersolar Expo in Munich going on now June 12.
