Lamborghini Urus SUV Officially Announced

Lamborghini has officially announced on Sunday the launch of its Urus SUV, which had been giving much hype in the auto community for the past few weeks.

The much-anticipated SUV will be featured at upcoming Beijing Motor Show, and Lamborghini released two photos with the announcements. Experts have compared the company’s move on introducing a SUV with Porsche Caynne and Ranger Rover.

“The Urus is a very concrete idea for the future of Lamborghini – as a third model line and as the perfect complement to our super sports cars,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini, in the Sunday’s announcement.

“SUVs stand for freedom and emotion. SUVs make up one of the most successful market segments worldwide. The Urus is the most extreme interpretation of the SUV idea; it is the Lamborghini of the SUVs,” Winkelmann said.

The exterior look of the Urus has a powerful image while maintaining elegance that Lamborghini design is known for. It is a powerhouse among SUV’s, with an expected output of around 44k kW and 600 horsepower, but convenient enough for four people and luggage in the back.

“The Urus is the Lamborghini for everyday use, for the family, for leisure pursuits with friends,” said the announcement.

But even with its incredible power, Urus at the same time produces lower CO2 figure compared to its competitors. The light weight, according to Lamborghini, has helped the low CO2 emission rate. The exact figures were not disclosed in Sunday’s announcement.

The new SUV was named after a type of fighting bull, following the tradition of Lamborghini’s two previous models, Aventador and Gallardo.

“…the Urus, also known as Aurochs, is one of the large, wild ancestors of domestic cattle. Urus bulls could measure up to 1.8 meters at the shoulder. The Spanish fighting bull, as bred for the past 500 years, is still very close to the Urus in its appearance,” read the announcement.

The Urus is 4.99 meters long, 1.99 meters wide, and 1.66 meters high.

Pricing information of Urus has not been mentioned in the announcement, but other sources are expecting it to be cheaper than Aventador and Gallardo.
