General Motors continued its spending ways this week, this time in Michigan where the automaker will invest $119 million at its Grand Rapids Operations.

The big investment will go towards tools and production equipment to help make components used for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles.

Currently, 500 employees work three shifts at the Michigan facility but the investment will create 300 future job opportunities, according to GM.

"This investment in the future recognizes the excellent workforce at Grand Rapids Operations," said GM North America Manufacturing Manager Scott Whybrew. "It also demonstrates GM's collaboration with our UAW partners to innovate and bring tangible benefits to our customers."

More details are expected to be released regarding the investment later on this year.

As we reported in April, GM plans on spending $5.4 billion in the U.S. to improve its facilities across the U.S., which will help retain 2,500 jobs.

Last week the Detroit automaker added a second shift to its Lansing Grand River Assembly plant to support production of the gen-six Chevy Camaro as part of a $175 million investment. The investment will help GM add 500 employees to the plant.
