Nissan Leaf Drives through NYC for Earth Day Celebration

Nissan Leaf will celebrate this year’s Earth Day in New York City as the sponsor of the event.

The automaker said in an announcement on Friday that the Leaf will take part in a CO2 E Drive through Manhattan and finishes at the Times Square. The three-day event from April 19-21 is designed to help raise environmental awareness.

“Nissan's commitment to zero emissions goes beyond the Leaf and we are always looking for ways to share our passion for eco-friendly solutions with the world,” said Jon Brancheau, vice president of Nissan marketing.

“Participating in Earth Day 2012 is an extension of Nissan's comprehensive range of initiatives that aim to help reduce environmental impact in real world terms and support the development of a sustainable mobile society.”

The Leaf and other environmentally-friendly vehicles will be equipped with GPS and their locations can be viewed at https://co2greendrive.gilvader.dk/newyork.html. The statement said each vehicle will act as “virtual paintbrushes”, ultimately forming an image of the letter “E”.

A special runway show will take place at the Times Square once they reach there.
