The Issue:

Ford issued a massive recall on Wednesday, involving more than 422,000 vehicles made between 2010 and 2012, including: 2011-2013 Flex, Taurus, Lincoln MKS and MKT, 2011-2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, and the 2011 Mercury Milan.

The Detroit automaker said in a statement that there could be an electrical issue in the steering gear that could cause owners to lose control of electric power steering.

The Fix:

Ford and Lincoln dealers are being told to either replace the steering gear or update software for the power steering control model, depending on the issue.

Injuries or Accidents:

Four accidents have been reported to Ford so far though no injuries have been linked.

Recall Date:

An official recall date has not been set yet by Ford.

Number of Models Affected:

The recall affects 422,814 vehicles in North America, mainly in the U.S. About 393,622 were shipped to the U.S., 25,195 to Canada and 3,997 can be found in Mexico, according to Ford.
