Hot on the heels of the news that Hyundai will offer Android Auto in its products, General Motors announced two major tech integrations today that will bring Apple CarPlay and Android's operating system into its products.

According to GM, that means vehicles equipped with MyLink infotainment screens will be able to access the technology, beginning with 2016 model year products. CarPlay will debut ceremoniously when the '16 Cruze sedan launches late next month. Android Auto will only be compatible with MyLink's 7-inch display screen, although GM is looking into the possibility of it working on the 8-inch screen. Both systems will allow for hands-off interaction with in-vehicle technology as well as smartphones.

The announcement is likely the beginning of a wide-scale adoption of the technology, as we predicted, and it's a significant day for the General when it can join the likes of Ferrari in feature offerings.
