The wait is over Sonata fans: Android Auto is now available as a free software update at Hyundai dealerships around the U.S.
In order to integrate the service with Hyundai rides, like the Sonata Eco and Sport 2.0T, owners will have to upgrade their phones to the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, download the Android Auto app, and make a trip to their local dealer, according to Hyundai.
Android Auto will let drivers access apps like Google Now, Google Music Play and the ever popular Google Maps through steering-wheel controls, touchscreens or voice commands.
"Android Auto helps keep drivers' eyes and attention on the road by integrating the advanced driving-related functions of the user's smartphone with the familiar centralized screen, physical controls and microphone of their car," the automaker said in a press statement.
The software is also available for rides like the Sonata Sport, Limited and Limited 2.0T.
If you don't have time to visit your local dealer, don't sweat. The software will be available for download later on this summer.
"We launched this highly anticipated feature on our best-selling Sonata, adding to our promise of value. With the launch of Android Auto, we provide more owners with the experience of cutting-edge technology," said Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America in a press statement.
To complete the process, owners will have to download the app, make a MyHyundai account, download the software onto a USB and then insert the memory drive into their Sonata's USB port.
The software will then update the navigation system automatically to make it compatible with Android Auto, according to Hyundai.
Expect the service to become available for additional Hyundai models like the Genesis and Azera later on this year.
