The Issue:

Fiat-Chrysler is recalling Jeep Cherokee SUVs made between 2014 and 2015 to repair an issue with the airbag software.

A small amount of inadvertent air bag deployments has occurred recently in newer Cherokees, mainly in "harsh, off-road environments," according to FCA.

The Fix:

Jeep dealers are being told to install a new software upgrade that will recalibrate the threshold for air bag deployment, free of charge to customers.

Injuries or Accidents:

No accidents or injuries have been linked to the recall yet.

Recall Date:

A recall date has not been set by FCA. Customers will be notified by the FCA as soon the software is available.

Number of Models Affected:

FCA is adding nearly 62,148 vehicles to a previous recall from February. The revised total for the U.S. affects 230,240 vehicles: an additional 28,110 can be found in Canada, 6,367 in Mexico and 52,057 outside the NAFTA region.
